NigeriaDecides: We’ve achieved 98% configuration of Smart Card Readers - INEC Chairman gives update

The Independent National Commission today said it has achieved 98 per cent configuration of the Smart Card Readers to be deployed for the Presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday. Briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja on the commission’s preparations for the postponed national elections, Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, promised that the configuration of the card readers would be completed on Wednesday. Yakubu said: “You will recall in my last address to stakeholders on Saturday I mentioned that we intended to deployed card readers and we identified very clear time line for the delivery of the card readers. I want to report that as at last night, we have achieved 95 per cent configuration of the 180,000 card readers and this process is going to be completed early morning on Wednesday, one day ahead of schedule'. Anonymous book-collector buys a first print, first edition of Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart for N1million

Nigerian poet and author, Lola Shoneyin announced that an anonymous book collector has bought a first print, first edition of Chinua Achebe's 'Things Fall Apart' for N1million. The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives writer had on Sunday, February10th,  put the book, owned by her friend, up for sale.  Within few hours an anonymous buyer reportedly purchased it. Things Fall Apart was published in 1958 by William Heinemann.

'Thank you @rollingout for this beautiful cover & article #LegacyIssue,' Porsha captioned the photo as she posted it onto her Instagram.   

Jay-Z slams ICE for arresting 21 Savage, hires an attorney to help so he's not deported to the UK

Hip-hop mogul,  Jay-Z  has reacted to  21 Savage 's arrest by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), who is detaining him after they discovered he is a British citizen living in the US illegally. According to TMZ, Jay-Z said the arrest and detention of the "Bank Account" rapper is "an absolute travesty" and points out that his US Visa application has been pending for years. Jay says: "In addition to being a successful recording artist, 21 deserves to be reunited with his children immediately." It was also confirmed that Jay-Z's company, Roc Nation has responded to what it calls a "matter of injustice" by hiring attorney Alex Spiro to assist with his case. Spiro tells TMZ, "We are not going to stop until he is released, bonded out or in front of a judge ... What we have here is someone who overstayed their Visa with an application pending for 4 years - not a convicted criminal that needs to be detained...

President Buhari has taken a dig at ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo who is working hard to get him out of office. While speaking in his office when he received the Ondo State Council of Obas in Akure, President Buhari said that he is only seeking a second term in office and not a third term like some people did and failed woefully. His comments has been seen by many as taking a dig at ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo who sought for third term but failed to actualize it. Tolu Ogunlesi, the Special Assistant on Digital/New Media, quoted  the president as saying “We have just finished one term and are seeking a second one. After that, the constitution doesn’t permit any more. There are some who tried looking for more but they did not succeed. We should learn from their mistakes.”

Pope Francis in Abu Dhabi for the first ever Papal visit to the Arab Peninsula

Pope Francis landed in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on Sunday evening to begin a historic three-day visit. This visit is the first one by a leader of the Roman Catholic Church to the Arabian Peninsula. He was received at the airport by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and His Eminence Dr Ahmad Al Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al Azhar Al Sharif University and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders. Children with bouquets of roses also lined up to welcome the Pope. In a statement, Sheikh Mohamed welcomed the visit of Pope Francis and Dr Ahmad Al Tayyeb to the UAE. Expressing his great happiness, he said that the visit is especially important in promoting the values of fraternity, peace and peaceful coexistence. More facts have emerged about the 15-year-old girl set to be maried off to Izuchukwu Igwilo, an allegedly demented man from the wealthy Igwilo family in Ozubulu community in Anambra state.  Activist, Prince Harrison Gwamnishu, who visited Anambra state after the story went viral, said the said girl is from Ihiala community and is actually 15 going on 16. Harrison in an interview with LIB, said the girl is from a very poor family and that she had a child when she was in primary 5 and had to quit school. Her family couldn't continue sponsoring her education and also taking care of her child so they decided that they were going to marry her off to Izuchukwu who came recently with his family members to ask for her hand in marriage. 'Wigs still more popular than natural hair in Nigeria'

The global natural hair movement hasn't affected the popularity of wigs in Nigeria with at least eight out of 10 Nigerian women wearing them. Tobi Lasekan, a wig maker from Lagos, told  BBC Minute  it's because they're easy to maintain and quick to put on. She makes about 11 wigs a day at a cost of around 85,000 naira ($235, £173) each.

Empire Hideout EMPIRE HIDEOUT BLOG The rapper Bow Wow and a woman were both arrested in Atlanta on Saturday morning on battery charges after each accused the other of assault, police said Both Bow Wow, whose given name is Shad Moss, and the woman, Leslie Holden, “did sustain visible minor injuries” in the dispute at an address that was reported at around 4:15 a.m., an Atlanta police public affairs officer said in a statement. Each accused the other of assault, police said. "Officers were unable to determine the primary aggressor of the altercation, so both parties were charged with battery," police said. Both were booked at the Fulton County Jail, police said. Booking photos show the rapper with what appear to be scratches on his face. Online jail records indicate Bow Wow and Holden had signature bonds set at $8,000 each, and that Bow Wow was released Saturday.
